The BNZ Breakers put on an impressive first half display against the Oklahoma City Thunder, going toe-to-toe with their NBA opponents before ultimately falling 117-89.
A spirited opening 24 minutes saw the Breakers lock the score up at 60-60 at halftime, but the Thunder's depth and physicality took over in the second half.
Matt Mooney led the charge early, hitting five three-pointers on his way to a team high 19 point performance.
Mooney’s accuracy from beyond the arc (55.6%) kept the Breakers in contention, while Parker Jackson-Cartwright orchestrated the offence with eight assists and 16 points.
New Zealand’s ability to hit from long range was a key feature of their first-half effort, with Mojave King also contributing from deep with five three-pointers as part of his 16 points.
Oklahoma City turned up the heat in the second half led by Dillon Jones (23 points, 13 rebounds) and Adam Flagler (25 points, five three-pointers).
The Thunder's superior inside presence, particularly through former Breaker Ousmane Dieng (20 points, 10 rebounds), caused problems and the visitors were unable to maintain their momentum.
The BNZ Breakers now travel to Brisbane to prepare for their third match of the NBL25 season on Thursday 17 October against the Bullets.
From there it’s home to New Zealand to host Perth Wildcats at Spark Arena in Auckland on Saturday 19 October at 7.30pm.
