Yanni Wetzell is thanking family, friends, and Breakers fans who've reached out in the last 14 days to support him, and he is pleased to confirm he's now COVID-free.
The 25-year-old has been in isolation for the best part of two weeks.
A game-time decision will be made on whether he steps onto the court against the Phoenix at John Cain Arena, Saturday night.
This is the third stint he has experienced in isolation but the first caused by a positive test.
He knows from experience it takes a while to readjust physically after being locked down.
"14-days in a small room definitely takes it out of you," he says from his hotel room in Melbourne.
"After the two 14-day quarantines I've had prior to this, it does take me a while to get me back into the swing of things."
Wetzell is upfront on what it has been like for him since the first positive test in the Breakers touring party two Sundays ago.
In total, nine people in the 39 strong party were sick, including two players.
"After the initial positive case in our traveling group, we all had to isolate and present negative tests," says Wetzell.
"My first was negative, my second on the Wednesday was positive, which meant I then had to go into a 10-day lockdown."
"I've had pretty mild symptoms; I've been able to get away from this pretty unscathed.
"It hasn't been as atrocious as it could have been, so I've been pretty fortunate but looking forward to getting out."
Wetzell has participated in team meetings via Zoom but will go to morning shootaround with the team, unsure how he will feel back on court.
However, he would love to play against his former team.
"It's always a special game playing the old team; we will see how I go in shootaround, it's unlikely that I will play at this stage, but if I feel amazing I'm going to try and give it a shot."
"Heath-wise, I feel great. I'm not tired anymore; I'm very enthusiastic about getting back out there.
"To all the Breakers fans and supporters, family and friends, I just want to thank you guys who have been aware of my situation and been reaching out on a consistent basis.
"I'm really excited to join the boys, get out of this quarantine, and get back with the group."
