Kiwi Big-Man Sam Timmins has re-signed with the Sky Sport Breakers, joining fellow kiwis Tom Abercrombie and Rob Loe on the roster for next season.
Signed as a development player last year, Timmins was away in Australia with the team for six months, where he made 15 appearances during the 28-game campaign averaging 3.3 points and 2.3 rebounds.
The 24-year-old is rapt to be returning for what everyone expects will be a standard campaign with regular home and away games next season.
“I'm coming back to the Breakers," said Timmins.
"It was a tough year all around for the club, but I feel that I personally got a lot out of it. I learnt a lot about Dan Shamir's system, and I progressed individually within the team throughout the season."
General Manager Simon Edwards says the Sky Sport Breakers remains committed to securing the best kiwi basketballers to the club.
"Sam is following a similar career path to Tom (Abercrombie) and Finn (Delany), who also came through our development system," he said.
"It's great to reward a guy like Sam who has shown unwavering commitment to the club in Australia over the last six months."
Despite the tough season abroad, Timmins says there was little doubt he wanted to come back.
"Being a proud kiwi, a proud New Zealander, and someone who loves the game of basketball, the Sky Sport Breakers are an obvious passion for me," he said.
"The Breakers is a team I've watched growing up and an organisation I wanted to play for as a professional for a long time, so I'm excited to continue playing for them next season.”
Timmins now turns his attention to the New Zealand NBL, where he is the reigning MVP from last season.
He turns out for the Otago Nuggets tonight in their season opener against the Nelson Giants at Trafalgar Centre.
"I'm a very proud Dunedin boy, and I remember going to the Nuggets games a lot as a child," said Timmins.
"I love playing for teams where I have an emotional stake in them as well. It's the case with the Breakers, and it's the case with the Nuggets."
"The first game is tonight, and I'm excited to get on the court."
The game will screen live on Sky Sport 3 at 7.30 pm.
