The Manuka Doctor All Star Celeb Slam is Back to help make Kiwi Kids Wishes Come True

The Sky Sport Breakers will be working hard to make as many wishes as possible come true at the second annual celebrity basketball game at Spark Arena on September 10.

New Zealand-owned and operated Manuka Doctor is nominating Make-A-Wish New Zealand as the beneficiary of the 2021 Manuka Doctor All Star Celeb Slam.

“We want to make as many Kiwi kids hopes and dreams come true, beyond their wildest imagination,” says Manuka Doctor Vice President Nicola Macfarlane.

“This is all about #beeingkind and having a sweet, positive experience.”

The celebrity basketball game, an unparalleled success last year, sees two teams of New Zealand’s biggest household names from sport, television, radio, and social media play alongside Breakers stars, including Tom Abercrombie, Finn Delany, and Tai Webster.

It will be another entertaining night that will have fans on the edge of their seats.

This year’s participants include undisputed UFC Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya and his City Kickboxing stablemates Carlos Ulberg and Kai Kara-France. 

Legendary Supreme Halberg Decade Champions Eric Murray and Hamish Bond, who never lost a race rowing together, will compete in opposite teams.

The event will also write a new chapter in the bizarre rivalry between Carlos Spencer and Guy Williams, as the comedian tries again to settle the grudge he has been carrying against the All Blacks playmaker for 18-years.

There is also a strong radio presence with Roger Farrelly from The Rock, Dom Harvey from The Edge, and Brook Ruscoe from Mai FM all confirmed to play.

The Breakers will reveal more celebrity names over the next month. 

“It is important to us that our basketball club continues to play an inspirational role in the community,” says Breakers Chief Operating Officer Lisa Edser.

“It is humbling to receive the support from not just the celebrities and the wonderful people at Manuka Doctor, but also our wider corporate family.”

Since 1986, Make-A-Wish New Zealand has transformed the lives of more than 2,500 critically ill children across the country, giving them the hope, strength, and joy they need to fight their illness.

 “We are proud to be working alongside Manuka Doctor and the Sky Sport Breakers on such an exciting special project,” Make-A-Wish New Zealand Chief Executive, Pam Elgar.

“This will provide an empowering impact to the lives of critically ill New Zealand children, their siblings, and wider family through the ability to deliver wishes.”

Basketball is the fastest-growing participation sport in New Zealand among school-aged children and the second most popular sport with New Zealanders under 39.
