The Count runs the roll call and keeps the numbers. As the BNZ Breakers won two in a row at home, he was watching closely as they took on the former penal colonies…

v Sydney

The BNZ Breakers sit atop the Ignite Cup standings. Saturday’s 95-90 win made it 3-0 in the Cup, with 18 points accrued out of a possible 21.

As the hot weather moved over the country, the Breakers brought their own heat with several seasonal highs:

  • Karim López: Achieved a season-high 18 points, bringing up 400 career points with the Breakers.
  • Parker Jackson-Cartwright (PJC): Hit an NBL26 season-high of 24 points - with 21 of them delivered in a massive second half.
  • Izaiah Brockington: Facilitated the offense with a season-high five assists.

v Tasmania

The victory over Tasmania marked the BNZ Breakers' 350th win (from 706 games), and the history books had a few more additions.

PJC posted his fourth double-double of the season with 16 points and 12 assists. He has now amassed 1,300 career points, becoming the 14th Breaker to pass the milestone. He is the second-fastest player to do so, taking just 68 games, trailing only the legendary Kirk Penney (50 games).

Sam Mennenga scored 16 points to take his BNZ Breakers career tally past 600 points. He is the 26th BNZ Breaker to reach the mark and, doing so in 40 games, was the 13th quickest to the milestone.

Karim López swatted his 40th career block in the game, putting him tied for 14th (with Rick Rickert) on the club’s all-time shot-blocking list. Only nine Breakers have 50 or more blocks to their name; averaging one block per game, our Next Star looks certain to join that elite group in the New Year.

Finally, Tai Webster was back in black for the first time in 1,553 days! The Count has pulled out his file and started loading his spreadsheet...

The final buzzer has sounded, and The Count has completed his muster. All stats are present and accounted for. The record books are secure until the next tip-off....
