Ousmane Dieng and Hugo Besson have been collectively labeled the top international prospects for the 2022 NBA Draft by esteemed ESPN draft analyst Mike Schmitz.
Speaking to Malika Andrews on ESPN's NBA Today before leaving Australia, Schmitz has described Dieng as a ‘sleeper’ in the draft and could go high in the late lottery.
On the same broadcast, he has also instructed American hoops fans to “Remember the name Hugo Besson” who he describes as a “6’5” sniper.”
“Dieng has tremendous size and can handle the ball and can facilitate in pick and roll,” enthused Schmitz.
“Besson can really shoot the lights out,” he added.
“He (Besson) has a short memory, he can miss one, two, three, four but he will keep making it fly and can play on the ball as well.
“With Dieng, 6’10”, he can really pass, made a bunch of step-back-threes the game I was at (in Cairns)."
Schmitz went on to say that Dieng is an "intriguing long-term prospect".
Schmitz believes the French duo are the best placed of all the Next Stars to transition from the NBL to the NBA.
The adversity they have both experienced with the Sky Sport Breakers by playing all their games on the road should benefit them in the world’s best league.
“I think it's really important to go through struggles and to go through adversity and to be living out of a hotel, and to be playing against some 35-year-old guy and banging with Lamar Patterson, who's now 260 pounds, and trying to put you through the rim, because he doesn't care about you,” said Schmitz.
“That prepares you to play in the NBA, honestly.”
