Former Orlando Magic Guard Chasson Randle Elevated To Full Roster Spot at Sky Sport Breakers
Sky Sport Breakers and import Jeremiah Martin have agreed to a mutual release, and he has returned to the United States to pursue other opportunities.
It means that injury replacement player Chasson Randle, who has been with the team since late December, becomes a fully rostered player with the Breakers for the rest of the season.
Randle now has an opportunity to show his undeniable NBA class in the NBL having played just one game after initially arriving to provide cover for injured import Peyton Siva.
The 28-year-old debuted against the Tasmania JackJumpers on Boxing Day, scoring 8-points before injuring himself.
He arrived in Australia having played 41 games for the Orlando Magic last season, averaging over 20 minutes and 6.5 points a game.
Randle brings to the Breakers a wealth of experience from 119 games in the NBA over five seasons - having also had stints at the 76ers, Knicks and the Warriors.
Head Coach Dan Shamir has thanked Martin, a former NBA player himself, for his contribution, where he averaged 12.3 points, 3.5 assists, and 2.8 rebounds in his ten games for the Breakers.
“Jeremiah is a great guy and a great player; I’ve got nothing but good words, and he gave us everything he had,” said Shamir.
“We are not shy in saying that we can see Ousmane breaking through in practice, and we saw it last weekend on the court against the Kings, and it does have a factor in how we make decisions.
“Chasson is a high quality player. I think he’s a very good fit with the other guys and can play with and without the ball,” said Shamir.
“It is a crazy waste having his experience here and not being able to see him play.”
A fully fit Randle will now travel with the team to Cairns this weekend, where he will take to the court against the Taipans on Monday.
Shamir hopes changing the imports will assist in bringing some consistency to the Breakers; they have won four of their last seven games but been unable to win back-to-back this season.
However, the Head Coach insists this is not a reset after 12 games in the 28-game season.
“It is a small change; it’s not a major change,” said Shamir.
“We are replacing a two-guard with a two-guard; Chasson and Jeremiah are different players, but it doesn’t change the team altogether.
“Chasson is a guy who makes other players look better, and all of us need to be better for the remainder of the season.”
