The BNZ Breakers return to a happy hunting ground for them in Launceston to play the Tasmania JackJumpers on Friday.
The BNZ Breakers complete another week on the road on Friday in Launceston against the Tasmania JackJumpers as they look to win for a third straight time on visiting the Silverdome.
Following a lone home game at Spark Arena in October last Friday night against the Adelaide 36ers, the BNZ Breakers were back in Australia on Monday night against Melbourne United at John Cain Arena.
They now are again away from home this Friday night when they play the second placed JackJumpers at the Silverdome in Launceston with the game to tip off at 9:30pm NZ time.
It's not a venue that holds any fear for the BNZ Breakers either, despite the fanatical home support that the JackJumpers receive where they play in Tasmania.
The two teams have now met one another in Launceston on three occasions and while the JackJumpers won the first contest 66-62 back in NBL22, the BNZ Breakers have prevailed on their two most recent visits.
That included an 84-76 victory back in NBL23 almost 12 months to the day four years ago of this Friday's encounter before also winning 97-92 nearly three years ago early in the NBL24 season.
The BNZ Breakers come into this Friday night's match up with a 4-7 record on the season and having now lost four straight matches, but they have been playing better than that suggests including only losing by six points to Tasmania last time in Hobart, by two to Cairns and seven to Adelaide after a slow start.
They are taking on a Tasmania team in impressive form, though, who sit in second spot on the NBL standings with a 7-3 record including a strong win in Melbourne on Sunday against the South East Melbourne Phoenix.
The JackJumpers won that game without David Johnson, Bryce Hamilton, Ben Ayre, Majok Deng and Ben Gold, and are expected to be without all five once again on Friday night in Launceston.
The BNZ Breakers will still be without Josiah-Jordan James and Preston Le Gassick as well but will be looking to make it three in-a-row in Launceston ahead of a return to Spark Arena to play the Brisbane Bullets next Friday night.
Despite the final 20-point margin against Melbourne on Monday night, the effort level all-round of the BNZ Breakers was significantly improved on what coach Gordie Herbert called out back home at Spark Arena on Friday against Adelaide.
Herbert, unfortunately, wasn’t able to coach that game on Monday through illness, but Sebastian Gleim stepped into the role for the night and saw plenty to be encouraged by that they will look to build on now against the JackJumpers on Friday.
"I think we limited the rebounds, so we took more care about the rebounding and we boxed out better," Gleim said.
"We had more control and we just played more physical which is what we want to do every game and then we moved the ball well.
"That's something we need to learn how we can do that over 40 minutes against a team like Melbourne because you need to move the ball for 40 minutes well to get your shots."
