INJURY UPDATE: SAM MENNENGA RULED OUT FOR 6-8 WEEKS; MAX DARLING TO UNDERGO SCANS
The BNZ Breakers have provided a medical update following their game against the Adelaide 36ers, confirming a significant injury blow to forward Sam Mennenga.
Mennenga suffered a heavy fall during the fourth quarter of last night’s contest. Post-game X-rays confirmed a fracture in his wrist. He will undergo an MRI on Tuesday to check for any further damage.
BNZ Breakers President of Basketball Operations, Dillon Boucher, confirmed the timeline for Mennenga’s recovery:
"Sam sustained a wrist fracture following a heavy fall in the fourth quarter.
"Unfortunately, he will be out for 6-8 weeks to allow the bone time to heal."
The Club is also managing a concern regarding Max Darling, who was been playing with a mask after a fractured eye socket.
"Max will undergo an MRI to assess damage to his knee sustained during the same period. He has shown true toughness to keep playing through his injuries."
This follows the confirmed loss of import forward Rob Baker II in last week's game against the Cairns Taipans with an ACL injury.
Despite the setbacks, the club still has its sights set on the top six.
"The club will evaluate its roster options over the coming days. Although NBL rules restrict the signing of replacements at this point in the season, we remain 100% focused on winning and will continue to fight with the squad we have." said Marc Mitchell, Club Owner and Chairman.
