Burger King helps build championship legacy

After the unveiling of a special edition jersey inspired by the historic 2010-11 championship season, it’s only fitting to honour the Breakers’ longest-standing partner, Burger King. 

The Burger King logo will sit proudly on the back of the jersey, the same spot as it did during that historic title run.

Burger King’s support has been a big part of the journey, from the side’s inaugural year in 2003, to the first taste of championship glory and through to now.

As a foundation partner, Burger King’s involvement has never been just about logos on jerseys or adverts in the arena - they are part of the Breakers family.

It’s a bond built on mutual values, a commitment to community, and a shared belief in the power of sport to inspire.

“The BNZ Breakers have always held a special place in our hearts here at Burger King,” said Bernard Oosthuizen, General Manager for Burger King New Zealand.

“Supporting a team that shares our passion for community and excellence has been incredibly rewarding. Watching the Breakers’ journey, especially that first championship win in 2010-11, was something we felt deeply proud to be part of.”

The 2010-11 season is a chapter Breakers fans will never forget. A year that set a new standard and brought a title to New Zealand. 

Whether rewarding fans at the stadium with their iconic Junior Whoppers or bringing players and supporters together off-court, Burger King helped make the Breakers’ games more than just sporting events.

This partnership has allowed the Breakers to flourish, growing our base and fostering a love for basketball in New Zealand.

As we celebrate Heritage Round with a jersey inspired by that first championship season, we give a nod to the players who wore it back and also those who helped us get there.

“There’s something truly powerful in being a partner since the very beginning,” Oosthuizen added.

“The highs, the lows, the moments that brought us all to our feet - it’s been an incredible journey. As fans, we’re excited to see the heritage jersey hit the court and proud to have been part of the history it represents.”

The BNZ Breakers will wear their heritage jersey on 5 December (Christchurch), 7 December (Wellington), 12 December (North Shore) and 31 December (Cairns).
