Breakers Announce Shock Return of Fan-Favourite for NBL24

Fan favourite Finn Delany is sensationally returning to the Breakers for NBL24.

The news is all the more remarkable considering it was just over 12 months ago that Delany walked away from the club at the end of two crushing COVID seasons based in Australia.

After a stellar season in Europe, winning the FBA Basketball Champions League for Baskets Bonn in Germany, Delany returns to the Breakers on a two-year deal.

“Finn wanting to return to the Breakers is the highlight of my off-season’” says Maor.

“Finn chose to join the Breakers after his phenomenal season in Germany because he wanted to part of what he saw from afar last season.”

It is more than seven years since Delany made an inauspicious debut for the Breakers on March 4 2016, not troubling the stat sheet.

However, the 27-year-old’s drive and determination to win quickly made him popular in his 162 appearances for the Breakers.

Delany currently sits eighth on the all-time list of appearances for the club, with 1519 points shooting at 46.9 percent from the field.

In 2021, he was the only player on the Breakers’ roster to play all 36 games in the first COVID season based in Australia.

His average of 16.2 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists and minutes (33.30) in 2021 saw him named in the All NBL Second Team and awarded the Breakers’ prestigious Most Valuable Player Award.

Delany represented the Tall Blacks at the 2019 FIBA World Cup in China and will add to his international appearances at the FIBA World Cup in the Philippines next month.

“I am extremely appreciative to Matt Walsh, the ownership group, for making Finn’s signing a possibility,” says Maor.

Delany is the eighth player confirmed on Mody Maor’s roster for NBL24 joining Tom Abercrombie, Will McDowell-White, Izayah Le’afa, Cam Gliddon, Dan Fotu, Mangok Mathiang and Next Star Mantas Rubštavi?ius.

There are 11 players in an NBL roster, with each team allowed a maximum of three imports.

An NBL Next Star has a special exemption to sit outside the 11 senior professionals.

The Breakers have three import positions to fill to complete their roster for NBL24.
