BNZ Breakers to Don Special Indigenous Jersey at Original Home for NBL's Indigenous Round
The BNZ Breakers will proudly celebrate the NBL's Indigenous Round by wearing a specially designed jersey for their upcoming game against the Brisbane Bullets on Thursday.
The 2025/26 Indigenous jersey, designed by artist Leroy Roberts, is a vibrant tribute to Māori and Pasifika cultures.
“The design draws inspiration from various Mangōpare and Manu highlighting their shared navigational skills across the Pacific.” said Leroy Roberts.
- Mangopare: Two hammerhead shark designs swimming upstream pay homage to whānau (family) and the sacrifices made in the pursuit of dreams.
- Manu: Inspired by the bird, this design at the neckline represents the collective vision and communication vital for a successful team.
This significant event will be held at Eventfinda Stadium, the club's original home on the North Shore, creating a powerful connection to the team's history and the cultural heritage of Aotearoa.
The venue holds a special place in the hearts of long-time fans and players, and its selection for this important game underscores the team's commitment to its foundations in this season theme of being "Back in Black".
Basketball in New Zealand has seen significant participation and success from Māori players, who have made invaluable contributions to the sport at all levels. From grassroots programmes to the national stage, the influence of Māori culture on basketball in Aotearoa is profound. This round provides an opportunity to celebrate these contributions and inspire the next generation of talent.
"To be back in a BNZ Breakers singlet is special, but to wear one that so proudly represents my whakapapa is a feeling of immense pride. It’s bringing my culture and my club together as we take on the Aussies." said Reuben Te Rangi, co-Captain.
The BNZ Breakers encourage fans to join them for a night of high-energy basketball and cultural celebration in a nod to both the team's heritage and the rich Indigenous history of New Zealand.
7:30 PM, Eventfinda Stadium, North Shore.
