A Kiwi Core Returns for 2026

The BNZ Breakers have strategically assembled their roster for the 2026 NBL season, capitalizing on the "free agency" period to attract top Kiwi talent back into the fold. Coach Kop and President of Basketball Operations Dillon Boucher actively worked to build a squad with a clear emphasis on bringing New Zealand players "Back in Black."

Izayah Le’afa carved a notable career across the Australian and New Zealand basketball landscapes. Le’afa first joined the Breakers in the 2022-23 season. His tenacious defensive presence and steadily improving offensive game quickly made him a key contributor. He played a vital role in the Breakers' remarkable 2022-23 campaign, where they defied expectations to reach the NBL Grand Final series. He continued with the team into the 2023-24 season, further cementing his role as a reliable and crucial guard. He later moved to the Sydney Kings for the 2024-25 NBL season but returned to the BNZ Breakers.

Joining him is Reuben Te Rangi, whose basketball journey is deeply intertwined with the New Zealand Breakers, having first joined as a development player in the 2012-13 season. His versatility as a guard/small forward during his initial four-season stint with the team established a strong foundation for his subsequent career in the NBL with the Brisbane Bullets, South East Melbourne Phoenix, and Tasmania JackJumpers. Te Rangi's homecoming signifies not only a reunion with his original NBL club but also a commitment to contributing his extensive experience and leadership to the team. Having amassed over 350 NBL games and represented New Zealand as a Tall Black, Te Rangi brought nous and a cool head to the team in the black and blue.

Rob Loe has came back across the Tasman, after leaving Melbourne United for another shift at the BNZ Breakers. The towering center, who also boasted an impressive international career with the Tall Blacks, first joined the Breakers in the 2016-17 season, providing valuable size and versatility. Loe continued to play in the NZNBL for the Auckland Tuatara, showcasing his enduring passion for the game in New Zealand.

The BNZ Breakers also secured the Canterbury Rams captain Taylor Britt. With strong experience in the NBL, the Tall Blacks, and the Rams, he brought leadership, skillset, experience, and dedication for the squad.
