Community Programmes

Champions Programme

Our Champions Programme creates champions, not only on the basketball court, but in life. Annually our Community Coaches visit over 50 schools to run our four-week programme teaching the four pillars of - Goal Setting, Nutrition, Active Lifestyles, and Values - as well as teaching the basic fundamentals of basketball to children aged 5-12 years. This is a free programme for Auckland schools and if you are interested in the opportunity, please email communitycoach@nzbreakers.co.nz.

Breaker Experience

School and community groups come along to our purpose-built training facility and experience what it is like to be a Breaker for the day. Each group watches training from side-line seats, have the chance to test their skills on court with our coaches and meet some of the players. All participants receive a basketball and player skills booklet to take home.

Breaker Ball

In partnership with the Basketball Development Trust we run a series of Breaker Balls throughout the season where the team head out to local recreation centres to play in an 'exhibition style' game against the schools. Along with giving schools the opportunity to play against the Sky Sport Breakers, students will have a chance to win prizes, get photographs and signatures from the players in their own player skills booklets. All the school needs to cover is transport to and from the facility.

Community School Assist

A resource based programme for schools. The purpose of this programme is to provide schools with basketball resources so they do not have any barriers to participation. The resources provided are a full class set of basketballs, net bags, and coaching manuals for the school to keep and use for team coaches and teachers. In addition, community coaches follow up School Assist distribution to assist in the learning and development process.

Community Coach Assist

A coach education programme. This programme is designed to up skill novice coaches, parent volunteers, and primary and intermediate school teachers. The programme involves coaches/teachers attending a coach education session as well as receiving a resource pack of 6 basketballs, a net bag, and a coaches manual.

Community Games

Every season we select two games to celebrate our local communities and reward schools and key individuals who have made an impact in their communities.
